Munster 15 Gloucester 10:MUNSTER STEPPED up their Magners League preparations with a convincing win over Gloucester in last night's friendly at Musgrave Park.

Alan Quinlan and Wian du Preez scored the tries with Paul Warwick adding a conversion and penalty against a full-strength Gloucester side, for whom outhalf Tim Taylor scored all their points with a try, penalty and conversion.

With a number of players looking to stake a claim ahead of next week’s opener against Aironi, there were several who caught the eye with good performances.

Tony Buckley continued where he left off in the summer tour, scrummaging strongly, and making a nuisance of himself at the breakdown.

Damien Varley was very assured in the set-piece, while fit-again Donnacha Ryan marked his return from injury with a polished performance in the secondrow. In the backs, new signings Johne Murphy and Sam Tuitupou combined effectively in the centre.
