Paddy Mullins dominated proceedings at Clonmel yesterday when completing a 139 to 1 treble with hurdle winners, Bamford Castle and Paris Pike, and Vanilla Man in the bumper.
Triumph Hurdle contender Balla Sola was given a boost by the victory of Bamford Castle in the opening Vee Rated Hurdle. Willie Mullins's highly-rated prospect had Bamford Castle over nine lengths adrift in third when making an impressive jumping debut at Thurles last week, and the latter did his bit for the form when staying on gamely in the straight under Tommy Treacy to hold Prince De Loir by three and a half lengths.
Paris Pike appreciated the testing three-mile trip in the INH Stallion Owners' EBF Maiden Hurdle. Paul Carberry sent the seven-year-old to the front inside the final half mile and drew clear of the favourite Rith Dubh from the last to score by seven lengths.
"He stays really well, and will go next for a valuable three-mile handicap at Fairyhouse on February 28th," said Mullins. The veteran Goresbridge trainer completed his treble with Vanilla Man in the Kilsheelan Flat Race. The son of Buckskin was prominent throughout and battled on well in the straight to repel Avondale Illusion by two lengths.
