It's been quite a week for Ailish Mulcahy from the Ross Golf Club in Killarney. Last week she won her club championship and on Sunday she was crowned Ford Ladies strokeplay champion at sun-drenched Druids Glen.
Most of the competitors in the Ford Championship final struggled as the notorious water hazards and the unrelenting heat took their toll. The high scoring didn't take from the day, however, and all of the players were full of praise for the condition of the course.
Playing off 18 in the medium (18-24) category, Ailish Mulcahy's 74 was one better than her rivals. In second place was Arklow's Susan Byrne with Maria O'Reilly (Headfort) and Barbara Kelly (Hazel Grove) close behind. More than 6,300 golfers from 240 clubs participated in the tournament.
Overall: A Mulcahy (18, Ross) 74. Low handicap (0-12): S Byrne (10, Arklow) 75, M O'Reilly (11, Headfort) 76, B Kelly (12, Hazel Grove) 76.
