Dundalk 1 St Patrick's CY 0:JOHN MOUNTNEY'S first goal for Dundalk helped them squeeze past St Patrick's CY at Oriel Park. The home side took control of the early exchanges and Marc Griffin squandered two glorious chances inside the first five minutes.

Ringsend-based St Pats got to grips with the task at hand and the Leinster Senior League side frustrated Dundalk with their disciplined approach. However, the nine-time FAI Cup winners struck four minutes into the second period. Philip O’Connor came for a corner that he was never going to get and it fell to Mountney who fired it home.

Dundalk were given a reminder of how slender their lead was in the 64th minute when Alan Murphy saw a long-range effort dip onto the crossbar.

Rafter should have put the result beyond doubt in the 80th minute but he blazed over from the spot before St Pats were reduced to 10 men when Simon Dunne was dismissed late on.
