Shay O'Donnell from Portarlington finished the scratch cup season in fine style when he won the Mount Temple Junior Scratch Cup on Sunday. However, the excellent Mount Temple course was again the winner. After Saturday's heavy rain the course was in perfect condition on Sunday, but not one in the field of 70 managed to break the par of 71.
O'Donnell, a five handicapper from Portarlington, had three shots to spare over John Reilly from Athlone, while Mount Temple's Bill McCormack took third place with a 78.
Another Mount Temple player, Pat McCormack, won the nett. He shot 72 off a six handicap to beat Arklow's Ray Murphy into second place with Larry Hogan (7), also of Mount Temple, taking the third prize on 74.
