AS WELL as the disciplinary proposals a number of other motions were heard during Saturday’s debates. A major raft of rule changes proposed by the Rule Book Task Force in technical areas such as presentation of the official guide and the electronic registration of players was accepted almost verbatim.
Two significant changes fell just short, like the disciplinary proposals, of the required two-thirds majority. One, linked to burnout control, would have stopped under-21 footballers lining out in the NFL as long as their county was involved in the age grade. It was supported 155-97 but not passed.
Similarly a motion to conclude the club championships before the start of the National Leagues received support on a count of 148-92 but the senior club finals will continue to take place on St Patrick’s Day.
Tyrone’s motion to do away with the International Rules series was rejected while a proposal to strike All-Ireland medals for the managers of winning senior teams was rejected.
A motion to make Croke Park permanently available to other sports once the Lansdowne Road development is complete was withdrawn on the advice of Central Council.
