Mayo ... 3-11 NUIG ... 2-10The opening round of the FBD Connacht League provided a win for John Maughan in his first serious test since his return to Mayo senior football management at Castlegar yesterday.

At the interval it was Mayo who held the advantage, 1-6 to 1-3, with Conor Mortimer scoring a stunning goal just on half-time. NUIG had scored the first goal as Rory Donnelly finished after picking up Matthew Clancy's pass.

Michael Meehan and Rory Donnelly had early points for the students to reduce the gap to a point 1-6 to 1-5, three minutes after the restart, but that was as close as it was ever got thereafter.
