Colm Moriarty was six-under-par when he beat the Ulster number one, David Jones, 2 and 1 on the opening day of the Youth Inter-provincial Championship at Waterford Golf Club yesterday.
But despite Moriarty's exceptional round - Jones was four-under-par for the 17 holes played - Ulster still proved too strong for Connacht, winning by six matches to three.
Leinster beat Munster 2-1 in the morning foursomes and held on in the afternoon, despite taking only one point from the top three singles matches.
