ALL-IRELAND MFC QUARTER-FINALS Galway 1-9 Cavan 0-9:A FORTUITOUS goal from midfielder Seán Moran seven minutes from the break proved decisive as beaten Connacht finalists Galway booked their place in the All-Ireland minor semi-final at the expense of Ulster champions Cavan.
Moran’s low drive hit the butt of the post and went in. It was against the run of play and stunned Cavan.
It had been all Cavan in the early exchanges and they had built up a four-point lead before Moran struck with the game’s only goal. Points were then traded between Conor Finnegan and Ian Burke to give Cavan a one-point lead going in at the break.
Galway were a different proposition in the second half. They quickly turned a one-point deficit into a one point advantage, with points from Shane Walsh and Ciarán Mulryan. Walsh then put three between the sides with two quick frees.
Andrew Graham got Cavan’s first point of the second half in the 43rd minute before Walsh replied with two for Galway.
Kevin Bouchier put just two between the sides three minutes from time but Cavan couldn’t get that elusive goal and Galway got the last score of the game; Walsh getting his sixth point.
