UNLIKE Ireland last week, Monkstown refused to kneel to the prevailing weather conditions at Sydney Parade in the first round of the Aluset Leinster Senior Cup on Saturday.

A third minute penalty from Andrew MacMaster preceded a cleverly worked try minutes later. MacMaster, an out-half whose game lives and breathes on doing the simple things well, chipped ahead in midfield for inside centre Richie Donnelly to pick up and move on to full back Stuart Draper. He, in turn, fed left wing Ryan Quigley who made it to the line.

Maguire's second try early into the second half, after good work from MacMaster and Donnelly was added to five minutes from time when hooker Danny Dent took another tap penalty close in. As the Seapoint defence parted Dent scored unopposed for MacMaster to nail Seapoint's giant killing pretensions firmly tight.
