Dubliner Dave Miley has been appointed to one of the most prestigious administrative posts in world tennis, that of International Tennis Federation (ITF) head of development.
Miley (36), fills the vacancy created by Doug McCurdy's move to become director of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
Miley, a UCD graduate who had attained a modest degree of success as a player both at home and abroad, was a non-playing Ireland team captain. He worked in tennis complex management in England before becoming involved in ITF administration during the past six years.
Miley coached in Ireland after a spell on the professional circuit in the 1980s, when he campaigned mainly in India.
Tennis Ireland's chief administrator, Des Allen, welcomed the news. "Dave has enormous experience and he is now being given the chance to make good use of it. The appointment is all the more gratifying in the year when Tennis Ireland will be hosts to the annual ITF conference."
