Inter Milan struck in the third minute with a Walter Samuel header and hung on despite playing nearly all the second half with 10 men to beat AC Milan 1-0 in their Serie A derby last night. Samuel scored with a diving header after Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati failed to cut out Esteban Cambiasso’s free-kick. Milan were in control after Inter had midfielder Yuto Nagatomo sent off for a second bookable offence three minutes into the second half.
A late goal by Claudio Marchisio gave Serie A leaders Juventus a 2-1 win at lowly Siena while Miroslav Klose scored twice in Lazio’s 3-0 defeat of Pescara. Cagliari won their first game of the season, 1-0 at Torino, and AS Roma had their first home win as they beat Atalanta 2-0.
Marchisio volleyed home in the 85th minute to leave Juventus with 19 points out of a possible 21 after seven games and extend their unbeaten league record to 46 matches. Andrea Pirlo put them ahead in the 14th minute with a free kick before Emanuele Calaio hit back in first-half stoppage time.
