The Republic of Ireland are to meet Mexico for the first time in almost two years, in their last warm up game for the European Championship, at Lansdowne Road on Saturday, May 25th.

The fixture was confirmed yesterday, leaving just one date to be filled in the preparatory programme for the European event. Yugoslavia remain favourites to play at Lansdowne Road on April 29th, although Portugal have also expressed an interest in travelling to Dublin.

The last time Ireland and Mexico met, in a friendly fixture in the Giants Stadium in New Jersey, the game ended controversially in a 3-3 draw. Liam Daish and Niall Quinn were sent off in separate incidents and Mick McCarthy was also dismissed for allegedly throwing the ball away.
