As Clontarf, the Whitney Moore & Keller Senior League Section B winners, are promoted to Section A along with Phoenix next season, Merrion may yet avoid the drop - with Rush - to the lower division.

At its meeting on September 30th, the Senior Competitions Committee of the Leinster Cricket Union will consider an application from Cork County CC for inclusion in the League next season, and its views will subsequently put before the full Executive of the Union on October 15th. If Cork County's application is successful, it is likely that Merrion would remain in Section A, with the newcomers competing in Section B, thereby preserving the seven-club structure in each division, following the demise of Carlisle.

Pakistan's Wasim Akram has quit international cricket in a bid to clear his name over match-fixing allegations. The outgoing Pakistan and Lancashire captain was implicated, along with Salim Malik and Ejaz Ahmed, in match-fixing in an interim report by the Pakistan Cricket Board's probe committee.
