Longford centre back Paul McNally made several fine saves as stand-in goalkeeper to earn the visitors a point at Oriel Park on Saturday night.
McNally was forced to go between the posts after goalkeeper Stephen O'Brien was sent off for a foul on Dundalk's David Ward. Unfortunately for McNally, his first task was to pick the ball out of the net after David Crawley had slotted home the penalty.
After the bottom-of-the-table battle, Dundalk manager Martin Murray will be disappointed the home side couldn't exploit the extra man.
Longford equalised in the 70th minute, also from the penalty spot, when Stuart Holt fired home after Stephen McGuinness had taken down Shay Zellor.
