TYRONE SFC SEMI-FINAL: Ardboe 1-7 Killyclogher 0-9:TYRONE STAR Brian McGuigan scored the winning point as Ardboe qualified for their first Tyrone SFC final since 1998. And it was a survivor from that title-winning side of 11 years ago who scored the goal that saw them edge past Killyclogher at Plunkett Park yesterday.
Gavin Wylie banged in the only goal of a fiercely-contested semi-final, and the Rossas survived a furious Killyclogher comeback in the second half.
Ardboe struck an early blow with Wylie’s goal in the ninth minute. Killyclogher’s Damien and Leo Meenan landed frees later in the half, with Tommy McGuigan hitting his second of the contest at the other end. Ardboe led 1-3 to 0-4 at the interval.
The Meenan cousins and the inspirational Dermot Carlin all hit the target in the early stages of the second half for Killyclogher.
The sides were level on four occasions, with Leo Meenan’s acute-angle point giving Killyclogher the lead at one stage. But they only held it briefly.
Kyle Coney converted a couple of Ardboe frees, and Brian McGuigan scored the winning point five minutes from the end.
