CRICKET: AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES: Australia ended day one of the second Test against West Indies in Hobart just 89 runs behind with 10 first-innings wickets in hand.

Veteran paceman Glenn McGrath picked up four for 31 from 23 superb overs as the West Indies were skittled for 149 just after tea at the Bellerive Oval.

Only opener Chris Gayle (56) and captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul (39) offered any real resistance for the visitors.

Gayle hit seven fours and two huge sixes - one of them one-handed over midwicket - in a belligerent knock, but he had other problems to deal with than just the Australian bowlers, as he was forced off the field before lunch with heart palpitations.

Gayle was cleared to return to the crease after lunch, but was unable to halt the Australian juggernaut, as Brett Lee and Stuart MacGill backed up McGrath by claiming three wickets apiece.

The West Indies' main hope of a big total, Brian Lara, was only able to contribute 13 runs before he was trapped lbw by Lee.

In reply, Australian openers Matthew Hayden (31 not out) and Mike Hussey (26 not out) put on 60 runs on what looks to be an excellent Test wicket.

PAKISTAN V ENGLAND: England opener Marcus Trescothick has yet to decide whether he will return home from his country's tour of Pakistan following his father-in-law's serious accident.

Trescothick, 29, has been discussing the matter with management, but captain Michael Vaughan confirmed his deputy had yet to make up his mind ahead of Sunday's second Test in Faisalabad.

Trescothick's father-in-law is reported to be in hospital in England after falling from a ladder at home and suffering serious head injuries.

Should the opener need to fly home, England would need to find an opening partner for Andrew Strauss in Faisalabad.

BOWLERS REPORTED: Pakistan bowlers Shabbir Ahmed and Shoaib Malik have been reported for suspected illegal bowling actions after the first Test win over England in Multan.

The pair, who have both been reported before, will undergo independent analysis of their actions and could face suspension if found to be bowling illegally.

Tests must be carried out within 21 days of the Pakistan Cricket Board being notified by the International Cricket Council.WEST INDIES FIRST INNINGS
