RACING:TONY McCOY rode his 100th winner of the season when Vasco Du Ronceray pummelled his rivals in the opener at Hereford yesterday.
The 17-times champion jockey will rarely have an easier time of things in the saddle as Nicky Henderson’s three-year-old sauntered 32 lengths clear in the Pertemps People Development Group Juvenile Hurdle. Bookmakers were suitably impressed, with BetVictor having installed him as the 16 to 1 favourite for the JCB Triumph Hurdle at next year’s Cheltenham Festival.
Meanwhile, Mouse Morris, who was leaning towards running First Lieutenant in the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby tomorrow, has now decided to run the gelding in tomorrow's JNWine.comChampion Chase at Down Royal.
The trainer said yesterday: “Wetherby is out. The ground is good in Down Royal so we might as well run there as it’s easier than travelling over to England.”
Fame And Glory takes a step into the unknown as he tackles the Santa Anita dirt for the first time in tonight’s Breeders’ Cup Marathon. “He doesn’t owe anyone a thing and we are entitled to be the wiser after Ascot, because in soft ground he tends to look after himself,” said his trainer Aidan O’Brien. “He has a lot of class and is a big cruiser,” added the Ballydoyle handler, who is looking for winner number seven at the Breeders’ Cup.
