SCHOOLS RUGBY MUNSTER SENIOR CUP/CBC Cork 21 Crescent CC 17:A TRY from centre John McCarthy 30 seconds from the end of normal time earned CBC Cork a sensational win in the quarter-finals at Musgrave Park yesterday.
The Limerick school started brilliantly, scoring two tries in the opening 12 minutes through centre JJ O’Neill and wing Jack Hogan, with outhalf Gearóid Lyons converting the latter for a 12-3 lead.
Christians outhalf Dave O’Riordan kicked a second penalty just before half-time and added a third after 50 minutes to cut the lead to 12-9 before the Cork school jumped in front for the first time.
O’Riordan sent flanker Michael Ryan in at the right corner for a 58th-minute try, but the lead was short-lived as Lyons crossed for Crescent’s third try straight from the re-start to edge 17-14 ahead.
Crescent had a player sin-binned in the closing stages and McCarthy took advantage to touch down at the posts, with O’Riordan converting.
