DLSP earned their second win under new coach, Paddy Stewart, with centre Damien Mc Cabe kicking over the winning points deep into injury time at Kilternan on Saturday. McCabe has not been able to train for the past three weeks due to a troublesome groin strain but scored 17 points from five penalties and a conversion.
The home team twice had tries ruled out in the closing stages following forward passes but having trailed 25-24 to second half tries from Dungannon's Tim Barker and Gillan Carruthers, they finally made amends in the 88th minute when McCabe landed a straight-forward penalty from just outside the 22.
Dungannon trailed early on to a Mihai Vironeau try and McCabe penalty before Jan Cunningham set up wing Alan Redpath for a try. Two more penalties from McCabe extended DLSP's cushion before full back Ralf Mercer raced from halfway to score in the corner.
Outhalf Mick Glancy converted to leave it to 14-12 at the break but DLSP hit the visitors seven minutes after the restart when centre Jason Critchley took a ball off a scrum to go over on the right. McCabe converted to make it 21-12 but Dungannon countered strongly to set up a dramatic last 20 minutes.
