Motor Sport: Argentina's Gaston Mazzacane was yesterday named as the second driver for Formula One's Prost team, joining Frenchman Jean Alesi for the 2001 season. The 25-year-old, who drove for Italian outfit Minardi last season, replaces Germany's Nick Heidfeld, who left to join Sauber at the end of last year.
Cricket: Fergus Carroll, a Clontarf CC first XI stalwart between 1957 and 1996, has been appointed honorary PRO by the Leinster Cricket Union. Carroll has acted in that capacity for his club for many years, and more recently has become a commentator on cricket and other sports with Near FM, the northside community radio station.
Cricket: India's former captain Kapil Dev appeared before the national cricket board's match-fixing investigator yesterday and made some changes to statements he had given earlier to a federal agency. "Kapil Dev made some additions, revealed a few new facts and made some minor amendments to what was mentioned in the government report," said an investigator.
