A GOAL in the dying minutes by Jarlath O'Malley snatched a dramatic victory for Mayo over Sligo in the replay of the Connacht minor Football Championship final at rain-soaked Markievicz Park yesterday.

Sligo looked to be heading for a famous victory when they led 0-8 to 1-3 with only minutes remaining.

However, disaster struck when Karl Boyle's free kick found O'Malley unmarked in front of goal and he made no mistake with a well placed shot to spoil Sligo's celebrations.

It was rough justice on Sligo who had dominated the game from start to finish in almost every area. However, they were guilty of some dreadful finishing, shooting a total of 15 wides over the hour.

Mayo's cause wasn't helped when defender Gabriel Walsh was sent off two minutes before the interval following an off the ball incident and they had it all to do when they trailed 0-5 to 0-2 a minute into the second half.

A penalty by Boyle put the sides on level terms, but Sligo looked to have secured the title when late points by Kevin Giblin and John McPartland gave them a two point advantage, before O'Malley intervened.
