Derry City 3 UCD 0Two goals by midfielder Ciarán Martyn saw Derry City maintain their Premier Division challenge at the Brandywell last night following this comfortable victory. The result sees Derry remain unbeaten in their last 10 matches.
Derry deservedly broke the deadlock in the 27th minute following a superb goal by young striker Mark Farren.
A long ball out of defence from Clive Delaney cleared the head of UCD full back Mick O'Donnell and when the ball broke to Farren he steadied himself before accurately driving home from 16 yards.
The goal certainly lifted the home attendance and four minutes later Gary Beckett went close but his effort sailed narrowly over the crossbar after Farren had set him up.
Stephen Kenny's side continued where they left off when they stunned the students within 38 seconds of the second half.
Straight from the kick-off, Beckett sent Gareth McGlynn scampering down the right and when he crossed the ball into the danger area the advancing Martyn rose majestically to head the ball beyond the reach of UCD goalkeeper Darren Quigley.
Derry ended the game as a contest in the 85th minute when the excellent Martyn scored his second goal of the night against his former club when he headed Seán Hargan's cross firmly home.
