Armagh forward Diarmuid Marsden could be facing a long lay-off after aggravating a groin injury. He was playing for Queen's in the Ryan Cup against Belfast rivals UUJ on Saturday. A diagnosis on the gravity of the damage will be made today, but he is a likely non-starter for Sunday's league meeting with Galway.
"I ended up tweaking the groin," he said last night, "but I haven't seen anybody about it yet so I couldn't say how bad it is. I would think rest is what it needs."
Marsden originally sustained the injury in a Railway Cup match last April. Because Armagh were progressing well in the League and championship training was in full swing, he wasn't able to take a complete break but underwent intense physio.
Another injury worry from the weekend centred on Hurler of the Year Brian Corcoran who was stretchered off during the Railway Cup final in Thurles on Sunday. Early worries dissipated, however, when Cork medical officer Dr Con Murphy yesterday examined the injury. "Brian twisted his ankle," said Murphy. "It's nothing more serious or sinister than that. Taking him off was a precautionary measure more than anything else."
UCC's Munster club football semi-final replay with Waterford champions Rathgormack will take place on Saturday at 2.00 at Fraher Field Dungarvan.
