This column displays commendable diligence in leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to further enlighten the reader (with useless trivia). Armed with this excuse and risking a divorce, the column watched four matches on Saturday: Connacht v Glasgow, delayed full coverage of the Ulster v Neath match from the Friday night, Munster v Llanelli and then at 11.30 p.m. live coverage of the Argentina v New Zealand game from the River Plate stadium.

At this point TG4 should be commended for the breadth and quality of their coverage in managing to provide footage of all four Celtic League quarter-finals, an armchair viewer's paradise.

But it was the Argentina-All Blacks game that provided one of the most interesting sights of the weekend, namely Diego Maradona, bedecked in a Pumas jersey, shouting exhortations from a corporate box in the stadium. In keeping with the demands of his new environment, Diego seemed to be clutching a pint of beer in his hand as he jumped to his feet to berate one of referee Scott Young's decisions.
