A MAN was being treated in Blanchardstown Hospital last night after being shot during an attempted robbery on his brother in Kilcock, Co Kildare.
The intended victim was returning home from the family owned filling station in the village shortly after 10 p.m. He was set upon in his front yard by two men in balaclavas, one armed with a shotgun. When the man's brother drove into the yard soon afterwards, he was shot in the side of the chest. The raiders then fled.
Gardai said robbery bad been the apparent motive, but no money had been taken. A hospital spokeswoman said the victim was in a stable condition.
