WOMEN'S GOLF:LEONA AND Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell) are into the quarter-finals of the Spanish International Ladies Amateur Championship at Sherry Golf Jerez, Cadiz.

Seventeenth qualifier Lisa continued her strong run of form, dispatching Spain’s Luna Sobron Galmes on the 13th green.

Galmes had earlier defeated the leading qualifier, Ines Lescudier, while Lisa had to go to the third extra hole to dispose of her international team-mate Danielle McVeigh in the morning round.

Third qualifier and twin sister Leona beat Alexandra Bonetti on the 18th green. Leona now faces French star Emilie Alonso in the quarter-finals, while Lisa plays England’s Holly Clyburn for a place in the last four.

The quarter-finals and semi-finals are on today and there is the possibility the 16-year-old twins could meet in tomorrow’s decider.
