All-Ireland Senior Cup champions, Co Louth, are on course for a senior double after qualifying to represent Leinster in the Bulmers All-Ireland Barton Shield at Lahinch in September. Already through to the Leinster finals of the Senior Cup, Co Louth had wins over Greystones, Mullingar and UCD on their way to victory at Portmarnock last Saturday.
The surprise of the finals was UCD's seven holes win over the hosts and favourites Portmarnock in the quarter-finals. UCD followed up that win with a six holes defeat of Waterford but fell at the final hurdle when they lost by two holes to Co Louth. Nigel Beirth and Brian Ronan beat Justin Kehoe and Mark Sullivan by two holes in the top match and Gareth Bohill and David Gannon halved their match with Mark Campbell and Leo Hynes.
