IF Polly Devlin had a difficult coming up with a speech as entertaining as Sinead McCoole's, pity poor Geoff Lindsey who is due to make a best man speech in front of a rather tough audience today.

His brother, music business executive Steve Lindsey, is due to marry comedy scriptwriter and broadcast journalist Fiona Looney in Dublin this afternoon and watching poor Geoff come up with one liners at the reception will be award winning comedy duo, Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews, who, of course, write Fr Ted, the super funny Pauline McLynn who plays Mrs Doyle in the series as well as Dermot Morgan and Gerry Stembridge, two men who have never been short of hilarious observations.

Since moving to London, Fiona has been commissioned by the BBC to write a pilot for a sitcom called Alison And Other Nurses. Much to the amazement of her friends, she is going the whole wedding hog, including gliding down the aisle in a meringue of a dress that she describes simply as being "big and white". Alter that, it's a honeymoon in Sicily and back to the couple's new flat in London's Crouch End "very fashionable", according to Fiona where their neighbours are Ardal O'Hanlon and Sean Hughes.
