Chelsea's England full back Graeme le Saux will be questioned by police after being accused of sparking a crowd disturbance in which a policeman and steward were injured during Saturday's Premier League game at Tottenham. The Football Association is awaiting the referee's report of the incident before deciding what action, if any, it will take.
Several Spurs fans complained to police that Le Saux made rude gestures to them after Chelsea scored six minutes before half-time. Scotland Yard detectives are expected to examine closed-circuit footage to see if the incident was caught on film. They will also speak to Le Saux, the referee Dermot Gallagher, fans and anyone else near the scene at the time to establish whether Le Saux should be charged with an offence under England's Public Order Act.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Allegations have been received of a public order offence committed by a Chelsea player during the match. The matter is under investigation." Le Saux has reportedly told Chelsea officials that he did nothing wrong during the game.
Fourteen arrests were made at the match, one for an alleged assault on a police officer, but only three of them were made inside the stadium.
