Two tries in the final 10 minutes scuppered Old Wesley's hopes of starting their All-Ireland League Division Two campaign with a victory at Donnybrook last night.
Wesley had gone 21-16 ahead when Simon Mitchell's 63rd minute try followed hot on the heels of another from Alastair Howell. The home crowd were buoyant at this stage with open side flanker Donnacha Murphy providing a vital link between the forwards and backs.
However, Eric Olazabal's quality strike rate of seven kicks from eight always gave Wanderers a chance. He struck a 57th minute penalty and then converted tries from scrum-half Marty Mahon and wing forward Neal Culleton.
Olazabal's accuracy was crucial: Mitchell got over for his try and kicked three penalties and a conversion, but he also missed five kicks at goal.
