A goal in injury time yesterday gave Waterford a share of the points in the Regional Sports Centre.
Derry appeared to have the game won when Andy Moran sent them into a 2-1 lead with 11 minutes remaining. Two minutes of injury time had been played when Derek McGrath set up Steve Grant who shot past David Platt from six yards.
Grant had opened the scoring when he finished off a low cross from Karl Gannon after 16 minutes. Six minutes later Derry were on terms when Sean Hargan volleyed a spectacular equaliser after a free from Eamonn Doherty was headed down by Liam Coyle.
All was set for Derry to head for home with the win but up stepped Grant to give the hosts a well deserved point.
