Galway 2-13 New York 0-12:GALWAY SCORED 1-2 in stoppage time for a flattering scoreline after being pushed all the way by 13-man New York in Gaelic Park last night.
It took a master display from Padraic Joyce – who found the net after two minutes – to get Galway out of jail as they failed to master the heat and the physical exchanges.
New York, who trailed by a point (1-5 to 0-7) at half-time, saw their hopes take a nosedive when they had two key men – Pat Madden and Johnny Murthagh – dismissed in the second-half.
Even so, Galway led by just two points going into injury-time before Cormac Bane scored a goal and point either side of a point from Danny Cummins to save their blushes.
GALWAY: P Joyce (1-8, 0-4 frees); C Bane (1-1); N Joyce (0-3, two frees); G Sice (0-1).
NEW YORK: D Doona (0-4, one free, one sideline); J Murtagh (0-4, two frees, one 45); J Bell (0-1); R Caffrey (0-1); A O’Connor (0-1); J Bell (0-1).
