Waterford 1-19 Laois 0-14: Two teams who lost their opening games last weekend met at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise yesterday in search of their first league points.
Laois who narrowly lost to Clare last weekend opened very well and had four points on the board from James Young after 14 minutes.
Waterford failed to score in the opening quarter but once they found the target they took complete control. John Mullane had two points inside a minute at the start of the second quarter and two more from Dave Bennett and Brian Phelan had the sides level after 25 minutes.
Further points from James Young and Philip Russell saw Laois ahead again after 30 minutes. But in the closing five minutes Waterford produced some wonderful hurling.
John Mullane scored his third and fourth points and in between took a pass from Jack Kennedy to score the game's only goal. Two points from Eoin Kelly and one from defender Brian Wall saw the visitors ahead 1-10 to 0-7 at the interval.
Laois had points from John Rowley and Canice Coonan on the restart but points from Dave Bennett, Brian Phelan and Dan Shanahan put Waterford ahead 1-15 to 0-10 at the end of the third quarter.
However, in the final quarter four great points from Eoin Kelly put Waterford in the driving seat.
A tiring Laois had the final say with points from Philip Russell, James Young and substitute Cathal Brophy.
