Knockdoo to follow up

Two Group One two-year-old races almost guarantees Aidan O'Brien's presence at Newmarket this week.

Two Group One two-year-old races almost guarantees Aidan O'Brien's presence at Newmarket this week.

The Ballydoyle trainer has four of the 11 colts left in Thursday's Middle Park Stakes at the five-day stage, including the 2,000 Guineas favourite, Fasliyev, and Bernstein, who was sensationally beaten in the Curragh's National Stakes. Brahms and Pissaro are the other Irish entries.

O'Brien has also the Listed winner Warrior Queen and the Curragh maiden winner, Inkling, in tomorrow's Cheveley Park Stakes.

O'Brien's name is next to just one horse scheduled to go at today's Dundalk meeting but Countessmarkievicz is not one of Ballydoyle's leading lights.

Those looking for a reasonable bet could do worse than examine the chance of Knockdoo in the Carlingford Handicap Hurdle.

Francis Flood's horse won on very soft ground at Galway earlier in the month where he again showed the ability to quicken he has brought from the flat. Three and a half lengths separated him from The Dipstick and in a marginally worse race, Knockdoo is selected to follow up.

The nursery looks a very trappy event, with the Gowran winner, Mitsubishi Trium, topping the weights. Scheduled to carry 9lb less is Salab, who represents the in-form Dermot Weld yard.

Fifth to Jamieson over five furlongs at Tipperary last time, Salab is running over a mile for the first time after predominantly racing over five and six furlongs. The hike up in distance could be the key to the Salse horse.
