Mayo 4-11 GMIT 0-11:DANNY KIRBY, in only his second appearance for Mayo at senior level, helped himself to four first-half goals which effectively killed this FBD league second round tie at Ballinrobe yesterday.
Mayo had five points on the board, three from Conor Mortimer including two free, before Johnny Ryan got GMIT off the mark with a free on 10 minutes but the game was over by the interval as Mayo lead by 4-6 to 0-4.
With the sting removed from GMIT the second half was largely forgettable, Mayo adding just a Danny Kirby point in the opening fifteen minutes as Diarmuid Cronin and Cathal Sweeney landed two good points for the students.
