A MODEST offering at Redcar and Wolverhampton today provides several betting opportunities nonetheless. Les Eyre's Kira appeals as a sound bet in the Don't Forget To Vote Fillies' Handicap at Redcar.
The game mare rattled up six victories last year including one over today's course and distance and appeared to have improved when running out the easy winner of a 22runner event at Doncaster's Lincoln meeting.
On Town Moor she led at halfway and went on to win eased down by two and a half lengths from Safio. The Hambleton trained seven year old followed up with a gallant performance when second in another competitive affair at Ripon some two weeks later.
Blazing along the unfavoured centre of the track, Kira was collared only inside the distance and beaten one and three quarter lengths by the well handicapped French Grit. With the firm ground in her favour, Kira can out gallop her opponents from the start to land the nap.
Martyn Meade has been enjoying a good start to his season and his two year old Days Of Grace can win the Monster Raving Looney Audion Fillies' Maiden. In her last race she ran a respectable fourth of nine, beaten five lengths, behind Pacifica at Newmarket and looks the type to improve with experience.
Elsewhere on the card, Ed Dunlop looks to have found a good opening for the well bred Broad River to break his duck in the Racing Channel Maiden. Running in a hot maiden at Newmarket on his reappearance, he showed up well to the fore until inside the final furlong and was beaten under five lengths behind Shawaf.
Against relatively easier opposition at the Cleveland track, Broad River is confidently expected to lose his maiden tag.
. Henrietta Knight retained her crown as the queen of Exeter when saddling a near 4 to 1 double at the course yesterday afternoon following victories for Colonel Blazer and Thunder Road. Only Martin Pipe has trained more winners at the track in recent years but Knight boasts a far better level stake profit of over 60 points.
. Top miler Spinning World makes his seasonal debut in the Group Two Prix du Muguet at Saint Cloud today. The Jonathan Pease trained Group One winner will be having his first outing since he finished second to Da Hoss in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Woodbine last October.
