Trainer David Elsworth is confident he has the ammunition to spike the Classic big guns after Scarteen Fox's convincing victory at Newmarket yesterday. The colt sounded a warning to the leading Arab battalions as well as the powerful Aidan O'Brien yard as he produced a performance mixing class and determination in the Somerville Tattersall Stakes.

Scarteen Fox, with Irish champion Michael Kinane in the saddle, had to work hard to gain the upper hand but in the end was good value for his two-length margin over Winning Venture.

John Dunlop was three-handed in the Fishpools Furnishing Godolphin Stakes and it was Kahtan, the least fancied of his trio, that landed the spoils.

He stayed on well in the hands of Richard Hills to overcome Migration with the winner's stablemate Lightning Arrow third in the Listed event.

Dunlop's other runner Lucido, off the course since the Derby, faded to finish second last. Family Man gained compensation for Ascot's wash-out last Saturday when securing the St Edmunds Handicap yesterday.

Kieren Fallon's superior strength won the day as Be Thankfull (James Levett Handicap) and Two Clubs (Boadicea Handicap) both prevailed by a neck.
