Emotions were at the extreme when thick, rolling fog forced a premature halt to proceedings at Buckley Park. Unsure visitors Bohemians, whose own season has become somewhat foggy, after a bright and promising opening, were happy to quit and leave the fight for another day.

In contrast, relegation candidates Kilkenny were in bullish mood. An unsurprising sentiment as they had had the better of the first half.

Kilkenny were full of enterprise from the kick-off and new signing Brian Honan had the Kilkenny goal after 14 minutes, despite there was a serious question of an off-side. Bohemians 'keeper Dave Henderson did well initially to keep out an effort from Brendan Rea. But as Henderson tried to set an attack rolling, the ball was lost and Honan was left to round the goalie and put into an empty net.

Slowly, unconvincing Bohemians got a rhythm going. Brian Mooney had a shot from eight yards turned over the bar by goalie John Connolly in the 35th minute. From the resultant corner, Connolly dived to keep out a Graham Lawlor header. Eventually, in the 43rd minute Bohemians equalised. Following a bout of pressure, Tommy Byrne hit an upright with a shot, and Swan turned the rebound into the net from close range. You could almost touch the visitors' feeling of relief. Still, there was unease. That was only blown away with the final whistle in the 54th minute.
