ALL Ireland champions, Kilkenny, didn't have to over-extend themselves when they retained the Leinster junior hurling championship by defeating Wexford at Nowlan Park yesterday evening. The winners now go straight through to the All Ireland final which will be played on August 17th.
Kilkenny made their bid for victory in the 38th minute when Richard Kelly goaled to give them a 1-8 to 0-7 lead. Additional points from Kelly and Pat O'Grady extended the difference to six points before Wexford hit back for a goal from John O'Gorman.
However, their revival was short lived and quick points from Brian Phelan and Richie O'Neill put the winners back in the driving seat.
