Brian Kenneally proved he is back in top form by winning the 100-mile Matt Corcoran Cup race at Naas in decisive fashion yesterday. Paul Butler was 49 seconds behind, followed by Paul Griffin, Paddy Moriarty and David Peelo.

Kenneally, from Piltown and a member of the Carrick-Cidona club, was ill during the FBD Milk Ras in May and, after struggling for a while afterwards, he took a break from competition for over a month. He won at Dungarvan 10 days ago and showed all is well again yesterday.

Last year's winner, Karl Donnelly, led the leading group of 18 out on the last of five laps of a 20-mile circuit through Ballymore Eustace and Blessington, but then Moriarty and Peelo went on. Kenneally got up to the leaders with Butler and Griffin, but with four miles left he surged ahead and won in great style.
