LEAGUE OF IRELAND PREMIER DIVISION Derry City 3 Dundalk 0: LIAM KEARNEY celebrated his return to action following a fractured leg with Derry City's third goal at the Brandywell last night.
Derry got off to the best possible start when scoring after just three minutes. Barry Molloy produced a superb through ball to find Thomas Stewart and he side-stepped advancing goalkeeper Peter Cherrie, before guiding the ball into the net from 12 yards.
The home side doubled their lead in the 29th minute. Molloy was involved again, having dispossessed Paul McAreavey, the midfielder set up Tam McManus and the Scot produced a superb finish from 20 yards.
Dundalk’s had striker Alex Williams sent off. Booked for a challenge on David Scullion, whatever the player said to referee, Tomas Connolly, an immediate red card was produced.
Derry missed a penalty on 78 minutes when after Kearney was upended in the area by Michael Daly, substitute Mark Farren’s penalty was saved by Cherrie .
Kearney completed the scoring three minutes from time, arrowing his header beyond Cherrie from Scullion’s cross.
