ULSTER SHC FINAL Loughgiel 2-24 Keady 0-6:YESTERDAY'S ULSTER Club SHC final, at Casement Park, was the most one-sided in history as Loughgiel Shamrocks of Antrim hammered Keady of Armagh.
It was double scores, 10 points to 0-5 at the break, Eddie McCloskey and Liam Watson the main Loughgiel marksmen. Watson was closely policed by Keady’s Ryan Comiskey but still notched some useful scores.
The greater experience of Loughgiel told heavily against the Armagh club who were appearing in their first Ulster senior final and it took the free-taking of Paul Breen, in the first half, to keep Keady in the game.
The second period was a constant stream of Loughgiel attacks and scores as they confined the opposition to just one point. That was tossed over by former Cushendall player Brian McNaughton four minutes after the restart.
It took some sterling defensive work by the losers, allied to some wayward shooting by the winners, to keep the margin down to 24 points in the end.
Scores by Watson, Joey Scullion, Mark McFadden, McGuckian and sub Damien Laverty stretched the winners’ lead to 0-18 to 0-6 entering the last quarter. Late goals by Brendan McCarry and Laverty completed the rout.
