Roy Jones Jnr survived a knockdown to earn a unanimous decision win over former sparring partner Lou Del Valle on Saturday night that gave him two-thirds of the light heavyweight title.

Jones, who added Del Valle's World Boxing Association belt to his own World Boxing Council crown, jumped up from the eighth-round knockdown, the first of his career, and won easily on all three judges' cards.

Meanwhile, Steve Collins has urged Chris Eubank to retire from boxing after watching from ringside on Saturday night as Eubank's second challenge for Carl Thompson's WBO cruiserweight title at the Sheffield Arena gradually faded behind a grotesquely swollen left eye which saw him stopped for the first time in 52 fights.

It was Eubank's fifth successive world title defeat in three years, Collins having inflicted the first two in March and September 1995.
