BRITAIN'S Irish Johnson broke her third Tour record of the weeks when she shot a final round 70 to win the French Open at Arras yesterday.
With a 19-under-par aggregate of 200, a record for a 54-hole tournament, Johnson finished a massive 10 strokes clear of Raquel Carriedo from Spain.
Johnson had earlier established a Tour record with her opening round of 62. She then took the record for 36 holes when she added a second round of 68.
Today the West Country golfer started the final round nine strokes clear of the field and was still nine ahead after an outward half of 35.
After a birdie at the short 10th Johnson three putted the next and then came back with birdies at the 13th and 15th holes to cruise to her 10th Tour victory and a £9,000 winner's cheque.
Maureen Madill was the best of the Irish trio when she shot a final round of 72 to finish at two under par on 217 with Aideen Rogers and Tracy Eakin a further stroke behind after respective rounds of 72 and 75. Eakin and Rogers both encountered problems on Friday night after the opening round.
Eakin had her clubs stolen from her car, and Rogers was injured in a motoring accident.
Eakin, playing with a borrowed set of clubs from tournament director Michael Petch, shot a 71 (she later got her clubs back and the thief was arrested).
Rogers was sitting in the back of a car being driven by Scottish professional Julie Forbes when they were hit by another car. The Dubliner was taken to hospital for x-rays. "They gave me some painkillers which I have been taking but it didn't bother me too much on the course. It only hurts if someone touches me on the shoulder." said Rogers after her second round of 74.
