ONLY five of the jockeys involved in the abandonment of Haydock in October will have to attend the inquiry on February 19th, the Jockey Club announced yesterday.
The jockeys due to ride at Haydock on October 19th controversially refused to ride in the second race due to fears about safety, despite instructions from the local stewards for the meeting to go ahead.
A statement released from Portman Square reads: "The presence of Messrs Eddery (Pat), Dettori, McKeown, Quinn (Jimmy) and Carroll is required. Should any of these jockeys wish to make an application to be excused attendance, the Disciplinary Committee will hear their application either in person or in writing.
"As far as the other 16 jockeys are concerned, the Disciplinary Committee does not insist that they attend, but they may do so if they wish. Jockeys who are not present may make a statement to be placed before the committee and all the individuals, whether in attendance or not, may be legally represented.
