Never was the adage horses for courses so appropriate at Sha Tin yesterday where the admirable French gelding, Jim And Tonic, claimed his third major Hong Kong prize in the Group One Hong Kong Cup.
The Francois Doumen runner treated the 57,909 crowd to another bonanza display by powering three and three quarter lengths clear of Britain's Running Stag.
With another British runner, Lear Spear, taking third, only Jim Bolger's Dazzling Park (11th) failed to get a look in amongst the European quartet.
Jim And Tonic thus complemented wins in the Hong Kong International Bowl and the Queen Elizabeth II Cup in a bonanza day for Europe which yielded a haul of a £1 million plus in prizemoney.
The win enabled Doumen to complete a long distance weekend double following the success of Grand Seigneur at Lingfield Park on Saturday.
Olivier Peslier's fine afternoon included a treble which came gift wrapped with success in two big international prizes on Docksider and Borgia. Peslier was also successful in the opener on Shaxi Fortune.
