Cobh Ramblers booked their FAI Cup second round trip to Sligo Rovers after Tony Izzi scored four in their demolition of Garda in yesterday's replay at Westmanstown.
Such was the one-sided nature of the game one wondered how Garda held Cobh to a 2-2 draw at St Colman's Park last Saturday.
In a dominant first-half display, Cobh ran a disjointed Garda side ragged on a very heavy pitch.
Sean Francis, having shot wide from two early chances, then twice hit a post before Izzi finally delivered the goals with two in as many minutes.
The first arrived on 33 minutes when Izzi did well to cut past a defender and beat Garda goalkeeper Vincent Daly with a low drive from just outside the area. Two minutes later he tapped in his second after Daly could only parry a low cross from Tommy Cregoe.
The game was all but over as a contest on 38 minutes when Daly could only help an in-swinging corner from Liam O'Connor into his own net.
Garda brought in Glen Millar for Ciaran Dempsey at half-time and proceeded to raise the tempo.
They created several openings before getting their consolation on 78 minutes with a disputed goal. Darren Coogan's header from Sean Mulhall's corner appeared to have been cleared off the line by O'Connor, but referee Hugh Byrne, deemed the ball had crossed the line.
It scarcely mattered however, as another goal blitz by Cobh in the final four minutes put the gloss on their win.
Izzi completed his hat-trick on 86 minutes when he swept past John McElroy to calmly shoot beyond Daly.
Sean Francis added a fifth a minute later before match-winner Izzi ran onto Willie Byrne's superb ball over the top to score his fourth and Cobh's sixth in the final minute.
