Europe's women golfers now trail 4-1 in Solheim Cup matches after another defeat at the hands of the Americans at Muirfield Village in Ohio.
But the idea of calling for reinforcements for the 2000 clash at Sunningdale absolutely appals English star Laura Davies.
There has been talk of changing the contest to a North America v Rest of the World event so that players like Australia's world number two Karrie Webb and Korean sensation Se Ri Pak are involved.
It is unlikely just yet and it may never happen, but Davies rages at the notion.
"I won't play on an international team ever," she said after this weekend's 16-12 loss.
"It's an insult to every single one of us. In four years' time you'll be asking the Americans if they are good enough? Do they need Canada and Japan?
"We don't want the Canadians or Japanese or the Australians. We're happy. I'm mad about this."
It is not all Davies is upset about. She complained to American captain Judy Rankin about the behaviour of Dottie Pepper and was so incensed that she turned one of her own captain Pia Nilsson's blow-up practice aids into a punchbag with the New Yorker's name on it.
Pepper was the top-scorer in the match with four wins out of four and is now joint record points-scorer in the event with Davies - both have notched 121/2 points. But that is about all they have in common.
"You get wound up and I've been excited myself. But when you incite the crowd while your opponents still have a very difficult shot to play, that's when I take exception," said Davies.
That was what she accused Pepper of doing on the final green of the Saturday foursomes game also involving Juli Inkster and Europeans Helen Alfredsson and Marie Laure de Lorenzi.
"What she did was unprofessional, unnecessary and spurred us on. It was a big mistake," said Davies.
Nilsson stated: "That's totally Dottie's thing. It's not something I would encourage from players I coach."
Pepper said she did not once think she had over-stepped the mark between sportsmanship and gamesmanship.
"To me it's patriotism," she said. "I'm glad to be their punchbag if that's what it takes. I take it as a compliment."
Rankin said: "Sometimes Dottie gets a little carried away, but she's really not the ferocious thing she comes across as.
"Dottie gets exuberant and Dottie lets you know how she feels. I'm not aware of Dottie being rude."
It is not the first time Pepper has been involved in controversy at the event. At The Greenbrier in West Virginia four years ago - as Dottie Mochrie then - she let out a loud "Yeah" when Davies missed a putt on one green and did not shake hands afterwards.
Europe lost this match on the first two days of foursomes and fourballs, not winning one of the four sessions and falling 10 1/2-5 1/2 behind.
Through Davies, world number one Annika Sorenstam, Helen Alfredsson and Lotta Neumann they won the first four singles but could not sustain the fightback.
Rankin intends stepping down now - she also captained America to victory at St Pierre two years ago - but Nilsson is expected to stand again for Sunningdale.
