Thurles Sarsfields ran riot in their Tipperary senior hurling semi-final at Thurles yesterday, handing Cappawhite a 24-point drubbing in a one-sided encounter.
Cappawhite were out of their depth as the Thurles side turned on the style with a litany of delightful scores. Inside 10 minutes Sarsfields were 0-9 to 0-1 up and on their way to the final.
In the 24th minute, Tony Ruth goaled to help them to an interval lead of 1-17 to 0-5.
Even worse was to come for the losers. Two minutes after resuming, Ruth grabbed his second goal and Mattie Dowd netted 17 minutes into the half to move Sarsfields out of the sight.
It was impressive stuff for the Thurles side. They dominated everywhere, with star showings from Johnny Enright, Ger O'Grady, Ruth, Pat Lawlor, Brendan Carroll and Cathal McIntyre.
Cappagh fell well below expectations. Eugene O'Neill, Seβn Ryan, Paddy Julian and Thomas Costello tried hard, but they had no answer to the Thurles power.
